In a dramatic escalation of tensions in the Middle East, Israel launched a major offensive against Lebanon in the early hours of Thursday, targeting Beirut and other areas. The attack, which followed a deadly day for Israeli forces on the Lebanese front, has raised fears of a wider regional conflict.
The Israeli military conducted a precise air strike on central Beirut, causing significant damage and resulting in the deaths of at least six people. Witnesses reported hearing a massive explosion, and a security source confirmed that the target was a building in the Bachoura neighborhood, close to the Lebanese parliament.
In addition to the Beirut attack, Israel also targeted the southern suburb of Dahiyeh, where Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was killed last week. Multiple missiles struck the area, causing heavy damage and casualties.
Israel’s offensive comes in response to a series of attacks by Iran-backed armed groups, including Hezbollah. On Wednesday, Iran fired more than 180 missiles into Israel, prompting a swift and forceful response from the Israeli military.
The Israeli government has vowed to continue its offensive until the threat posed by Hezbollah and other militant groups is eliminated. However, the escalation of tensions has raised concerns about the potential for a wider regional conflict, particularly as Iran has threatened to retaliate for Israel’s actions.
The United States and other Western powers have called for a de-escalation of the situation and have urged both sides to refrain from further violence. However, the prospects for a peaceful resolution remain uncertain as the conflict continues to intensify.
